Services.
Taking a holistic approach, we engage in the design stage and remain involved through to the successful conclusion of the operational phase. Our approach covers investigation & research, design, installation, test & commission, safety assurance analysis and recommendations as well as operation and ongoing maintenance support.
Traction power
PE's highly versatile traction power modelling system was used in the design of the Inner West Light Rail Extension (IWLRE), Canberra Light Rail (CLR) and Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 (PLR1). It was also the basis of reference design for Sydney Metro North West.
Our software design tools, used to design and commission multiple railways, have been calibrated against operational networks, meaning our designs are assured against the kind of real measurement and proven accuracy critical to public trust and success.
POWERTRAIN LICENSING INFORMATIONProtection
From legacy analogue protection systems through to the most modern IEC 61850 networked protection systems, PE's protection specialists have worked extensively with a wide range of systems across a variety of projects and industries.
Our team is supported by leading-edge testing equipment used to verify the actual performance of our protection designs.
Earthing & Bonding
PE is an Approved Engineering Organisation for the design, construction and acceptance of Earthing and Bonding systems. Our earthing and bonding specialists have designed and implemented isolated and MEN bonded earthing systems for public utilities, government railway utilities and industrial clients.
We have developed earth grid design modelling software to support the highest quality test equipment. It allows us to close the loop and verify the performance of our earthing designs, ensuring PE remains at the forefront of assured design excellence.
Distribution
PE has designed and commissioned a wide range of substation and distribution power systems for government utilities, public utilities and industrial clients.
We have developed in-house software to model the performance of electrical power systems, and our distribution designs for kiosk substations rival the capability of chamber substations.
Harmonics
PE was founded on specialist expertise in harmonic filter design engineering. Over the years, we have developed this core offering, moving from working on our own designs to providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) review services for third parties to resolve issues caused by harmonic resonance or distortion.
Our specialist harmonic filter design engineers are backed by proven software design tools and power quality recorders, ensuring we remain at the forefront of this discipline.
Electromagnetic Compatibility
PE provides Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) analysis for new substation developments and utility pipeline coupling studies.
Our EMI studies remain a core research interest harnessing numerical analysis and simulation based on Maxwell's Equations. This research has extended to finite element modelling of a submerged arc furnace to understand electrode bus tube current flow paths.
Assurance
PE provides commissioning services for both low and high voltage systems within AC Distribution and DC Traction. Delivering these services onsite, our engineers maintain a focus on practical and sustainable design outcomes.
PE's Principal Engineer, Mark Giacoppo, is a qualified electrical contractor able to certify electrical systems in accordance with NSW Fair Trading Law.
Electrolysis & Stray Current
PE is an Authorised Engineering Organisation for the design, construction and acceptance of stray current mitigations. We provide Electrolysis Working Group representation for rail constructors and operators.
We provide Electrolysis Risk Reports for developers as part of NSW Construction Certificate consent requirements.
Accredited Service Provider Level 3
PE is an ASP3 for the design of the NSW Electricity Network (Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy, and Essential Energy). We design new network connections for chamber/indoor substations, kiosk/padmount substations, pole-top transformers, direct distributors, and LV extensions, as well as asset relocations and public lighting design.

Juan Vargas Project Manager, Sydney Civil (May 2022)
Performance Electrics have provided us with expert advice on high voltage design, installation and maintenance methods for the past 10 years. They are always reliable and available - with a quick phone call I can get immediate answers or if I need something fully detailed their turn around time is prompt. Their advice is thorough and accurate and they treat our assets as if they are their own. We are very happy with their services at Sydney Airport.
